lucky/unlucky numbers?

Does anyone know if any numbers in Afghani or Muslim culture have good or bad connotations? For example, the Japanese consider 4 to be unlucky, and I've known some people to freak out regarding 666. I need to put buttons on my next project and thought maybe I should ask around before making the buttonholes. Thanks.

786. Yahoo asks states, "There have been various speculations about the mystical or religious significance of 786 in Islam for centuries." But I wouldn't suggest that many buttons!

The wikipedia says that "7" is also lucky in Islam, though other websites state there are no islamic lucky or unlucky numbers.

There is nothing in the Koran or Afghan culture that would impact how many buttons we place on a sweater. Our relief agency partners keep us informed on what is appropriate for the people they serve. My friend's son runs the website http://www.islamicity.com, which may be of interest to you.

I am going to take the liberty of mentioning here that "Afghani" refers to Afghanistan's old currency. (I have some bills from when I was at Khyber Pass in 1999. My favorite souvenir ever!). The people are referred to as "Afghans."

Gotta run. I need to get to the AFSC Basement and see whether the packages have started to arrive. It's been slow. Thanks, everyone, for your beautiful garments and all the effort. Thanks, Elizabeth, for your guidance and attention here as our moderator.

Thanks for letting us know that things have been slow to arrive, Ann, that's good to know. I will try to finish up a few things and get them in the mail.
