Plotulopi Sweater
I knew this sweater would find a campaign! It is a small adult size, knit of Icelandic plotulopi which is unspun roving. It is very light and VERY warm, too warm for me to be comfortable. The pattern is a traditional pattern that I followed pretty much exactly so I would learn how to make this type of sweater. There are NO seams, just a bit of grafting at the underarm. I entered the sweater in a local fair earlier this month and it took fourth place. I didn't see what the other entries were like but I am OK with fourth. Now it will go to keep some child warm and I hope he or she likes it.
WOW! A child in Afghanistan is going to be quite warm with this sweater.
This is an example that for many of us, it's the knitting...whether the challenge of a new stitch or pattern, a new yarn to try or simply the calming effect knitting gives that keeps us going. And to be able to share with others is icing on the cake.
I'm using 'knitting' as in inclusive word because that's what I do. I know there are crocheters who read this...this goes for them, too.
Our 2016 campaign was completed the first week of August 2016. Our wool gifts were successfully transported and distributed by NGO Trust in Education.

Update August 2017:
Unfortunately, we do not have plans for a new campaign at this time because of hurdles with logistics. We'll do our best to solve, but nothing promising yet. Thank you for participating while we had the opportunity!
THE BASICS
afghans for Afghans is a people-to-people project that knits and crochets wool garments as a practical gesture of friendship and respect for the people of Afghanistan. In partnership with the San Francisco office of the American Friends Service Committee, our project started in late 2001 in response to the war that unfolded after 9/11. This follows a long-time tradition of knitting for others at times of war and crisis. Afghan families still need to know that we care. Join us here for camaraderie, inspiration, and mutual support with projects.
