Almost finished in 2010

I finished the socks except for running in the ends. They are a basic toe-up (from tiajudy.com, my favourite) pattern in Red Heart's Heart and Sole, worked double. They work out to about a child's size 3-4 to adult 6, and have long legs because I just kept working until the yarn ran out. The leg is ribbed the whole way to help it stay up and fit all different widths of legs.
The vest is a UFO I found while unpacking some old boxes. It's an alpaca blend, very soft and warm. I love the colours but I remember the yarn was remaindered and so I wasn't sure there is enough to make me a vest that won't be skintight. So I'll finish and send it off for a child.

(Just in case anyone does not know -- Red Heart makes a "standard" sock yarn, 75% wool, 25% nylon. I didn't want people to think all Red Heart yarn is acceptable for garments for A4A, because the wool requirement is firm.)
Beautiful, MargoLynn!

Elizabeth, that's why I specified the yarn I used. There are some sock yarns that are only 50% wool (Deborah Norville), or even 0% wool (Bernat)! I remember when Red Heart came out with the Heart & Sole there was a discussion about it since people couldn't believe that Red Heart would make a non-acrylic yarn. I actually have some very old all-wool yarn because "back in the day" Red Heart did make 100% wool yarns.

Since you mentioned ... I was cleaning out a box of patterns this weekend ... came across 2 labels for Red Heart Knitting Worsted 100% Virgin Wool Mothproof and "Tangleproof!" Patterns on the inside of the labels. These must have belonged to my grandmother. Anyone want these vintage labels? Let me know, and I will mail them to you. This is the Internet ... people collect all sort of things, I hear ...

Tomorrow is our first packing day of 2011. Can't wait to see Antje, Ann B., Pam, Annette, Emily, and all your packages in our cozy AFSC Basement! Lots of good new year's wishes to you all, and happy Monday!

Ann, I definitely collect such things - I can put a SASE into my next package so you can mail the labels to me.

MargoLynn, I love your story of finding this treasure as a forgotten UFO, and your generosity in making this up for an Afghan child!
